Platform Battery

They are divided into 2 types according to their usage areas. Maintained (maintenance-required) and non-maintained (maintenance-free) platform batteries are deep cycle type batteries used especially in applications such as access equipment for high places, cranes, lifts, platforms. These batteries can generally be categorised into two main categories with different maintenance requirements.

  1. Maintained (Maintenance Required) Batteries:
    • Well-maintained batteries are usually based on lead-acid technology and require regular checking of electrolyte levels, adding water and cleaning.
    • They may require regular water replenishment because the electrolyte can be depleted by water evaporation.
    • Water should be added by opening the lids. This must be done carefully and with the correct procedures.
    • Maintenance should be carried out in a well-ventilated area and safety precautions should be taken.
    • The maintenance process may include checking electrolyte levels, adding water, cleaning terminal connections and, where necessary, performing a balancing charge with the charger.
  1. Maintenance Free (Maintenance Free) Batteries:
    • Maintenance-free batteries usually have a sealed and closed structure, so there is no need to check electrolyte levels or add water.
    • Their lids are usually fixed and do not provide access from the outside. It is therefore not possible to add water or carry out maintenance.
    • As maintenance-free batteries are specially designed and sealed, they normally do not require the addition of water and generally require less maintenance.

Both battery types can have deep discharge capability and are used as power sources in industrial applications. Which type is preferred will depend on the requirements of the area of use, the conditions of use and operational needs. It is important to select the correct type and size of battery according to the needs of the application.
